About the art

We offer verieties of styles at Gladiators such as

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: the term “jiu-jitsu” in Japanese translates to the art of softness or the way of yielding. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling based martial art that traces its origin back to Japan and even further. The art is based on utilizing the momentum and movement of an opponent to take the encounter to the floor and force an opponent into ajoint lock or choke that will render them unable to continue the fight.

The art of Japanese Jiu-jitsu and Judo were brought to Brazil in the late 1800’s by legendary master Mitsu Maeda and passed down to the now famous Gracie family. Our instructor “Crazy” Tim Credeur began his studies under the Carlson Gracie Team in 1995 and has since received his Black Belt in 2005 under Carlson Gracie protégé and World Champion Rodrigo Medeiros.

Judo:  meaning “the Gentle Way” is a japans based martial art that began in the late 1800’s. Judo is a form of martial arts and self defense that is based on the combination of many different schools or ryu of ancient Japanese Jiu-Jitsu forms. The father and creator of Judo was legendary master Jigori Kano.

Judo focus on a wide variety of throw’s, takedowns and counters to get an opponent of their feet and in a vulnerable position on the mat. Once on the mat submissions and positions are utilized to immobilize and subdue an attacker. Judo is an international sport and is practiced in the Olympic Games by many different countries.

Boxing: is a sport that utilizes punching combinations, footwork and movement to attack and defend an opponent. The boxing classes at Gladiators Academy of Lafayette are run in the old school Western boxing style. We utilize jump ropes, pad work, bag work, foot work drills, double end bags and good old fashion conditioning to teach our student the tried and true methods for developing devastating punching combinations and also defenses from any opponents attack.

Muay Thai Kickboxing: this art is commonly referred to as the science of 8 limbs. Students will be taught how to use the hands, elbows, knees and shins to attack and counter an opponent. This style is a very Hard Style martial art that has been considered one of the most brutal and devastating styles in history.

Students will be trained in both striking and holding Thai pads for drill work, bag work, footwork and also prospering sparring techniques. Safety gear is required for sparring and can be purchased at the Gladiators Lafayette office.

NOGI Jiu-Jitsu: (also known as submission wrestling) is a style that combines the most effective forms of Freestyle Wrestling, Greco Roman Wrestling, Judo, Sambo and Jiu-Jitsu to effectively takedown and submit opponents without the use of the traditional GI uniform. This style has become popular due to Mixed Martial Arts fighting in America.

Students will learn various techniques from many different positions and drill them repeatedly. The act of sparring in grappling is commonly referred to as “rolling” and is practiced in each and every class to give students the most realistic look at the effectiveness of their techniques and also the weaknesses of their games that need improvement.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA): this sport was made popular in the early 90’s with the advent of the now famous UFC. Our head instructor Tim Credeur has spent the last 15 years participating in this sport and currently fights for the UFC organization. Our gym plays host too many of the South’s rising young fighters.

Mixed Martial Arts at Gladiators Academy of Lafayette combines all the elements and ranges of combat to give our students the most effective form of martial arts knowledge. Our style was developed by UFC fighters “Crazy” Tim Credeur, Rich “No Love” Clementi and Kyle Bradley. We teach students the most effective ways to blend and mix the arts they have learned into a single effective style of combat that accentuates their strengths and minimizes their weaknesses. All students are welcome in the classes to know and learn the techniques and strategies that took all three of these Louisiana based fighters to the highest echelon of our sport, the UFC.
